About this Project

“Movisphere” is a multi-platform, virtual world arcade accessible by and between computer and mobile technology.  Based on a microtransactional model, this virtual world works in a persistent universe where users can play MMOGs (massively multiplayer online games) with people from around the world and seamlessly switch between their mobile and desktop/laptop environments.  Unlike other MMOGs which are either played on a computer or with a cell phone, this innovative project pushes the envelope in bridging the two worlds together.  

“Movisphere” is the brainchild of Telefónica, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. Recognizing the expertise and talent at the Centre for Digital Media, Telefónica sought out the students of the Masters of Digital Media Program to work on a prototype.  A newly formed MDM/Telefonica team is currently exploring design and artwork concepts as well as technical solutions.  A finished prototype including a number of fully-functional features will be presented December 2008.
