Pre-Masters of Digital Media Program

The Pre-MDM/ELC Program has 25 hours of instruction per week plus workshop projects. Subjects covered include Collaborative English Language Leaning, Rapid Prototyping Skills Training, IELTS Preparation, Canadian Studies and Oral Skills Building.

Students will attend half their classes at the Centre for Digital Media at Great Northern Way Campus and the other half, a short distance away, at the Harbour Centre at Simon Fraser University Downtown Campus.

  • The MDM component includes 12.5 hours of instruction per week at the Centre for Digital Media at Great Northern Way Campus.
    • 6 hours – Collaborative English Language Learning (Digital Media Edition):  In this course students will develop strong English presentation and collaboration skills in order to communicate effectively as members of multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams working together on successful collaborative digital media projects.
    • 6.5 hours – Interactive Rapid Prototyping (IRP):  In this section, students will be taught rapid prototyping, mobile gaming platforms and other relevant digital media software and applications.
  • The SFU component includes 12.5 hours of instruction per week at SFU’s English Language and Culture Program, Harbour Centre location.
    • 4 hours – IELTS Preparation: This class will focus solely on preparing for the IELTS exam that will be taken at the end of the program.
    • 4 hours – Canadian Culture Studies. In this class, students will focus on learning about Canadian culture, with an intensive writing component.
    • 4.5 hours – Advanced Speaking & Listening Enhancement:  Through a series of hands on exercises and workshops, students will work on their verbal communication and listening skills.
