The Game Developers Conference

Alice getting a look at the new Nintendo 3DS

Part 2 of the 3 weeks of crazy!  Onwards!

Every year, the Masters in Digital Media program sends students to represent the school at the Game Developers Conference.   A bit of advice for future students planning on going to the convention next year:  plan to go at the beginning of the semester.  There was a lot of drama regarding students who wanted to go at the drop of a hat, and project managers were frustrated in having to do with the sudden loss of man hours.

For the most part, GDC was a great experience.  We got to try out the new technology and pick up lots of free swag.  We also had access to the career pavilion and talk to the industry representatives about their respective companies.  As one of the C4s looking for an internship position to go for this summer, I found it interesting to note that many of the companies were looking to hire people for junior positions, but most were unable to offer internships.  Companies seemed really interested in individuals with hard skills at the moment:  programmers and artists.

Here, Alice Tai is getting a quick tutorial on 3DS's brand new autostereoscopy display.

More photos of the event are posted in the GNWC Flickr account:  here.
