Game Jam and Graduation

So... Apparently insane amounts of work, completely unreasonable deadlines and a near lack of sleep drastically reduces even the possibility of writing a blog post. Despite my best intentions, blogging during the Global Game Jam last weekend really wasn't an option. Michelle did write a post just prior to the opening of the Jam, and Steve D. posted another just after the event, however.

Anyway, it was a fantastic weekend. Having been through it once, I've realized that the opportunity of making a game from scratch within a 48 hour deadline is not something that any game developer worth his (or her) salt should ever pass up. Especially when one considers the enormous amount of games produced over the weekend - 1600 participants from 52 locations across the globe, and over 300 games! The good news is that the Global Game Jam is slated as an annual event, so if you missed it this time around, watch out for it again next year. Alos, all the games have been posted to the Global Game Jam site - check 'em out!

The other reason that I'm writing is say the progress on planning the MDM's first ever graduation ceremony is going really well. The ceremony will take place at the Centre for Digital Media on April 24th and it should be a pretty good show. We have a relatively small cohort of students graduating this year, so there's lots of room for creativity and originality in the design of the event. I have to say though, it's pretty cool to be involved in planning my own graduation - definitely not an opportunity that I would expect to have anywhere else. I think everyone else involved is pretty excited about the personal touch they can add to something that will become a tradition in years to come.
