Did I mention this city likes to party? Every night the "Chiringuitos" (bars ON THE BEACH!!!) invite live DJ's to spin techno music. I've been spending many nights just hanging out on the beach, grooving to tunes.
As far as work goes...
I finished teaching the Virtual Worlds class with Dr. Sinclair. It went well, with some minor technical challenges (eg: Restrictive firewall rules which don't allow access to SL or WoW). Despite that, everyone seemed happy with the contents of the course. Which indicates that a lot of what we learn at GNWC is extremely relevant to industry (beyond videogame companies).
Just as I started into my fulltime project, my boss tore his achilles tendon. He's going to be off work for the duration of my time here, which leaves my role unclear. I had a brief vision of the movies Brazil and Office Space. I imagined that I could relax here on the beach, forgotten, but still collect paycheques. But that's not my style. So, this week I'll be pitching new projects. I'll encourage Telefonica to fund a future GNWC student project as well. Wish me luck!
I've met a lot of the senior management from Telefonica I&D. They're all very friendly.
My Spanish is coming along, albeit slowly. Everyone's very helpful. It's amazing how fast I learned the words for alcohol and food! Equally amazing how slowly the rest comes, especially considering that all of our project documentation is in Spanish.
BTW: I take credit for Spain winning the EuroCup and Wimbledon! I also take credit for ending the drought in Catalonia.
I like it here a lot. It would be a great place to live permanently, or visit regularly.
