I heard some great news yesterday from MDM Advisory Board Member and animation guru, Glenn Entis who along with Tom Wujec of Autodesk held the hugely successful Hot Design Workshop for us two months ago. Glenn informed me that the Vancouver Chapter of SIGGRAPH on May 14th will be hosting Syd Mead artist and conceptual designer for such science fiction films as Blade Runner, Aliens and Tron.

Things will be really popping on the Digital Visual Arts front in Vancouver and at the MDM in May when we will be co-hosting an amazing Distinguished Speakers Series with the Vancouver Art Gallery to kick off their upcoming KRAZY show The Delirious World of Anime + Comics + Video Games + Art opening May 17th.

Comic buffs will go KRAZY! for VAG show

KRAZY! will explore the pop cultural world of comics, animated cartoons, anime, manga, graphic novels, computer-video games and visual art – all of which are obviously very relevant to the MDM curriculum.

The Speakers Series will be held right here at the Centre for Digital Media and will feature such exciting luminaries as comic artist Art Spiegelman, animated film maker Tim Johnson, and video game giant Will Wright. We are hoping to have each of them spend some time working with MDM students and faculty while they are here in Vancouver. Stay tuned for more details.
